Bob’s Grill Celebrates 25th Season

  By: Leah Lancione

Since 1994, when Bob McCoy opened Bob’s Grill, the restaurant has maintained a solid fan base with Outer Banks locals and visitors. Now almost 25 years later, Jennifer McCoy and her staff carry on Bob’s legacy of fun and friendliness. Combined with delicious hearty-sized and homemade breakfast and lunch entrées, it’s a recipe for success!

You can’t come to Kill Devil Hills and not stop at Bob’s Grill for breakfast or lunch because it’s a true Outer Banks experience! The laid-back atmosphere coupled with delicious grub like plate-sized Blueberry Hotcakes with homemade hash browns, Seafood Benedict, or Shrimp and Grits, beckons a hungry crowd day after day… and those are just a few of the popular breakfast options. Favorite lunch items include the Mac Burger, the Crab Meat Reuben, and the steamed-to-order All-You-Can-Eat Crab Legs and Steamed Shrimp.

Bob’s Grill has been such a “go-to” restaurant since the beginning that the tongue-in-cheek motto “Eat and Get the Hell Out!” was coined early on to encourage diners not to linger after eating so more patrons could be accommodated. “Since we’re open seven days a week (in season) and have such a fun and family-friendly ambiance, folks either start their day here with breakfast before hitting the beach, or come in at lunchtime to check out our daily specials,” says Jennifer.

For regulars, Bob’s Grill is a local treasure with American diner classics like Angus Beef Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches, Philly Cheese Steaks and BLTs. Visitors catch on quickly that this is the place to go to satisfy everyone in the family. There are lite options such as homemade granola with yogurt and fruit, or veggie omelets for the health-conscious, as well as Chicken Fingers, Queso Fries, Beef Nachos, and more to satisfy youngsters or the young-at-heart. A full kids menu is also available.

For visitors looking to score authentic Outer Banks cuisine, the extensive menu at Bob’s Grill answers the call. Jennifer says, “We use choice ingredients for classic favorites like our Fried Oysters, Crab Cake or Rockfish Platters and our N.C. Style BBQ Platter.”

Rounding out the menu are great appetizers, various salads (with or without the soup of the day), and daily drink specials. “We’re known for our Bloody Marys, screwdrivers, sangria and mimosas,” says Jennifer. She adds that the mimosas, which come in orange, cranberry and creamsicle, are “standouts” with customers, and the soda floats and iced coffees are also refreshing treats on a hot summer day!

Another part of what makes Bob’s Grill such an original is the dining room décor. Surfboards hang from the ceiling along with the restaurant’s “world famous” T-shirts. Die-hard fans can proudly sport a Bob’s Grill T-shirt or purchase merchandise with the illustrious “Eat and Get the Hell Out!” slogan to memorialize their visit. The restaurant even offers a discount coupon in Sunny Day Guide for Bob’s Grill T-shirts.

It’s no wonder Bob’s Grill has been awarded “Best Breakfast” by The Outer Banks Voice and Max Radio’s “Best of the Beach” in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. There are so many delicious and filling menu items to choose from and the service is quick and efficient. “Nobody leaves here hungry, and they’re definitely happy!” laughs Jennifer.

Excited to celebrate their 25th season, Jennifer and the Bob’s Grill crew thank customers for making the legendary restaurant the success it is today.

Bob’s Grill is open year-round, seven days a week (in-season) from 7am-2pm at Mile Post 9 on the Bypass. For more information or off-season hours, call 252-441-0707 or visit BobsGrillOBX.com or on Facebook.
